Early Prediction of 2025 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) - NewsNation

It’s way too early to say with any degree of certainty what next year’s COLA will be, but it’s still interesting to take a look at what might be. Inflation, of course, is the driver of any COLA increase to be awarded next year, and it only takes a trip to your grocery store to know that inflation continues to plague our ability to live comfortably on a fixed income. Of course, it would be good news if inflation eases, thus at least mitigating the price increases we’ll suffer in the coming months. But the other side of that scenario is that if inflation subsides, so will the amount of Cost of Living Adjustment awarded for next year. You see, COLA is based on the year-to-year difference in a specific Consumer Price Index during the 3rd quarter (July – September). If that CPI index (the “CPI-W”) is higher during the 3rd quarter of this year than the same period last year, the difference will be the COLA increase. The Senior Citizens League regularly monitors inflation and, in this NewsNation article by Andrew Dorn, predicts what the 2025 COLA increase will be.
