Reminder: Social Security checks will no longer be sent via US Mail after September 30th. - Newsweek

The Social Security Administration has issued a warning to all those who currently receive their monthly Social Security payment by paper checks: The agency will discontinue issuing monthly SS payments by U.S. Mail after September 30, 2025. This means that about half a million beneficiaries will need to set up electronic payments with the SSA as soon as possible, as explained in this Newsweek article by Aliss Higham. Beneficiaries can choose to receive their monthly Social Security payments directly into a financial account they specify, or via “Direct Express” (a debit card), enrollment for which can be done at this link: www.usdirectexpress.com or by calling 1-800-333-1795.

There is, however, an exception. If the beneficiary is unable to use either of the accepted direct payment means, the Social Security will make an exception, but these are expected to be limited. Click here to read the Newsweek article describing the switch to electronic payments.
