Q & A

A friend said I should tell Social Security my new address even through payments goes directly to my bank. Why?

AnswerUsing regular mail, Social Security mails you information about your ongoing benefits. Correspondence is not sent by email. You can miss important information by not keeping your address current. You also have a responsibility to report some types of information when receiving any type of Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment. For example, read “What You Need To Know When You Get Retirement or Survivors Benefits” (SSA publication 05-10077) at www.ssa.gov/pubs/10077.html. Report changes by calling the SSA national number, (800) 772-1213 (TTY (800) 325-0778), or contact your local office. Read more…
