Maurie Backman explains the predicaments many seniors may find themselves if they were or are now close to or at retirement.  She reminds readers that signing up early will reduce your benefits for life and thus should be avoided if possible.  But you can also undo your filing within a year. That might occur if one found another good paying job after a period of unemployment.  Backman notes you can claim Social Security if you’re collecting unemployment and explains this.  Lastly she explains that you can request a lump sum payment if you delayed your filing, getting six months worth of benefits maximum.  Full article here.
