Audit Shows Disability Paid to Non-U.S. Residents

A recent audit conducted by the Social Security Administration Inspector General revealed that almost 1,200 recipients of disability benefits live outside of the United States. 246 of these payments are not allowed under the current rules of the system, totaling more than one million dollars. An individual becomes ineligible for benefits when they are outside of the United States for longer than a month. Some of these recipients have been living outside the U.S. for over a year, all the while collecting their monthly pay out.
