“Big Beautiful Bill” takes a Step Forward - Fox News

After being squelched on Friday night when five republicans voted with democrats, members of the House Budget Committee were summoned back to Washington for a meeting on Sunday night at 10 pm. After some reconsideration, the bill passed along party lines with a vote of 17-16. Moving the bill through the House Budget Committee is a procedural move. Lawmakers have stated that some changes will be introduced as amendments in the House Rules Committee. This group is the final gatekeeper before a House-wide vote, sometime early this week.

There will be high-stakes negotiations on any changes made before the House Rules Committee considers it. Lawmakers hope to get it to the President’s desk by July 4th. Although early reports have not disclosed what content changes have been made or discussed, many seniors and Social Security beneficiaries are closely monitoring the bill’s progress, particularly concerning the provisions to modify the federal income tax imposed on Social Security benefits.
