Social Security is the major source of income for most of the elderly, with nearly nine out of ten people aged 65 and older receiving a Social Security benefit as of June 30, 2022. Social Security benefits represent about 30 percent of the income of the elderly. The current level of inflation has pushed the cost of living higher; Social Security retirement benefits will play a significant role in beneficiaries. Yet, many people don’t understand Social Security has definite rules and dates that you will need to meet, or it could prove very costly. A recent MassMutual gave a true-or-false quiz of 13 questions to 1,500 people ages 55 through 65; you would be surprised at the results.
