“Clawback” Update–A Real Life Example of What To Do

The Social Security overpayment problem, and the Agency’s much-criticized actions to “clawback the mistaken payments, are continuing to draw attention in the media and Congress. If you’ve received one of the infamous SSA demand payment letters, you should know that there are steps you can take to address your situation. A video posted on ABC10.com presents an analysis of an actual mispayment situation and the approach taken by one unfortunate victim to resolve the problem. It’s a short video, with advice on three steps to take if you find yourself in this situation: (1) file a “Request for Reconsideration, (2) submit a hardship appeal, and (3) if all else fails, discuss a repayment schedule.
