Coordinating VA and Social Security Disability Benefits - Nasdaq.com

As a country, we owe much gratitude to those who have served in our military, and especially to those veterans who became disabled as a result of their service protecting our freedoms. The Veterans’ Administration offers many assistance programs, and a critically important one is the VA disability program which offers income for disabled service members who are unable to work. But the VA isn’t the only source of assistance available to our military hero’s – the federal Social Security program is also there and can supplement VA benefits with Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits for those who qualify.

The qualification criteria are different for VA and SSDI benefits, and a veteran must still qualify for SSDI benefits under the standard SSDI criteria (their work record), but Social Security’s Wounded Warrior program facilitates SSDI benefits for those receiving VA disability benefits. All of this is explained in this Nasdaq.com article by Steven Perrigo. Click here to read more.
