Debate Disappoints: “Where’s the Beef?”

Watching the Aug. 6 Republican political debates, I was once again reminded how often political rhetoric is the norm while concrete proposals to solve our problems get short shrift. I thought of the famous “Where’s the Beef” commercial from Wendy’s that poked fun at its competitors’ small hamburger patties on oversized buns. Walter Mondale also used the phrase successfully against Gary Hart when he defeated Hart to win the 1984 Democratic presidential nomination. Read more…
