There are two types of disability programs under Social Security. The first is Social Security Disabilty Insurance. This is available to people who have worked and paid into Social Security for at least 5 or the last 10 years. The other is Supplemental Security Income which is available if the person does not meet the work requirement and has very low income and resources.
