Doctor visits were down in 2020 but HSA spending was up
Although the doctor and hospital visits were down in 2020, there were significant increases in health savings account spending. According to a new report from Lively, Inc., an HSA provider, “change in consumer behavior due to COVID-19 and shelter-in-place orders that lead to a considerable decrease in nonessential procedures and visits.” However, “prescription drugs were up 32 percent and chiropractic care was up 20 percent partly tied to the pandemic.” In Nicole Spector’s article appearing on www. finance.yahoo.com, she writes how COVID-19 changed how and whether we take care of ourselves.
