Happy Birthday Social Security!
Today is a big day for American’s most important social program. On August 14, 1935, then President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. The primary focus of the Social Security Act was to provide a guaranteed monthly benefit to aged workers during retirement. As of June, close to 62.5 million people were receiving a monthly benefit check which includes 43.1 million retired workers.
