Larson’s Social Security Fix Should Solve Shortfall

The problem with Social Security can be stated succinctly: It is running out of money. Experts believe the Social Security Trust Fund will be depleted by 2033 to the point where it could pay only about 75 percent of benefits. That would ill serve the vast number of Americans who rely on the combined disability and retirement programs. According to the Social Security Administration, two-thirds of retirees rely on Social Security for more than half of their retirement income….There’ve been several legislative efforts in recent years, from Republicans and Democrats, to put Social Security on solid ground. The most recent is from U.S. Rep. John Larson, whose district includes Hartford, and it offers a sensible pathway to sustainability.
