Life Expectancy and Social Security

Life expectancy among the current population is rising higher and higher with advancements in health care and living conditions. This is a good thing, but it does put a strain on Social Security that now has to stretch farther than it was ever intended to do in its original iteration. This is a difficult problem to fix, every solution leaves a portion of the population distressed. The simplest way to fix the problem is to either put more money in to Social Security to support the longer benefits, or to send less money out, both of which alienate certain factions. This usually leads to compromises that attempt to lessen the blow to either side. For more information on this subject visit this article by Josh Barro with The New York Times.
