One-third of independent contractors say saving for retirement is a challenge

At a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, labor and Pensions Committee’s subpanel on primary health and retirement security, the matter of retirement savings options for independent contractors and other so-called gig economy workers were discussed with Senators from both sides acknowledging the issue. It is estimated that there are 40 million independent contractors in the United States and approximately one-third of these workers say saving for retirement is one of their top challenges.
