Retirement: Life (and Surprises) in the “End Zone” - MoneyTalksNews

After marching downfield for the length of a career, many retirees find that the turf in the end zone isn’t as welcoming or comfortable as they had hoped. Sorry to use a sports metaphor here, but it seems appropriate to help put a fine point on how some retirees experience crossing the goal line into retirement. MoneyTalksNews staff writer Gillian Manning capsulates a sampling of these experiences in a recent post (without sports metaphors) on their website titled “7 Unexpected Harsh Realities of Retirement — According to Everyday Americans.” Her piece describes real-life, practical, and emotional thoughts expressed by readers in response to a request for observations on the world after work. Bottom line, for many,  “… the reality of retirement rarely matches the brochure.”

Read her post here, and pay particular attention to the second item. If you’re just approaching retirement, the AMAC Foundation’s Social Security Advisory Service can help diffuse this confusion. Click here to learn more about this free service and how to take advantage of it.
