Survey results are in: Most don’t know Social Security basics

The somewhat stunning results from a recent survey of one thousand individuals, revealed that 96% of those surveyed demonstrated a shocking lack of understanding of Social Security, a program which does, or will, play a major, if not crucial role in their retirement future. Even for the most basic question of what ages are the earliest and latest to claim Social Security, about 76% of those polled got the answer wrong (the correct answer is that age 62 is the earliest and age 70 is the latest age when the maximum SS retirement benefit is reached).
