The Break Even Point in Benefits

When to start collecting Social Security in retirement is a very common dilemma that many run in to when nearing or entering retirement. Most fall back on projected break even points to decide when the most logical time to file would be for them. Of course many other things should be taken in to consideration when making this decision, most importantly is your overall health and family medical history. If you are in poor health and your family history shows a penchant for shorter life spans then it may make the most sense to collect earlier benefits as the break even points usually occur in your late 70s for filing at full retirement age.
