Q & A

I completed my retirement application online and it was easy. Are these applications reviewed by anyone at Social Security?

Answer: Yes. Just over half of all national Social Security retirement applications are completed online. More than retirement applications can be completed online. For example, people applying only for Medicare or for disability benefits can file online too. Social Security representatives review all online applications.

Based on ZIP code, online disability applications are reviewed at local SSA offices before going for a medical decision. Retirement and Medicare online applications are reviewed in any of several national centers, but could go to a local office.

Wherever received, online applications are reviewed for completeness. If there are no questions, the SSA employee completes processing of the application. If questions exist, you are contacted to resolve them. Learn how to complete your application online at www.socialsecurity.gov. Read more…
