12 Things That Happened During ‘Vote-a-Rama’ 2015

Every so often, the Senate gets together for an exercise in rapid legislating known around town as the “vote-a-rama,” a marathon session of voting in which dozens of amendments are considered as part of the annual budget process. On Thursday afternoon, they began tackling a series of about 40 amendments to the budget resolution in a process that lasted until after 4 a.m. Friday. While most of the measures dealt with provincial issues or bureaucratic minutia, others were political statements aimed at forcing senators to go on the record for or against a controversial issue.
