Social Security’s disability “compassionate allowance” helps those battling cancer
For those battling cancer, just hearing the “C” word was devastating enough, followed by the consequences of the disease including, in some cases, suddenly being unable to work. Social Security can help in these situations though its disability program which, for certain types of cancer, will expedite the processing of a disability claim through its Compassionate Allowance program. Social Security maintains a list of health conditions which are so obviously totally disabling that they deserve expedited handling of the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) claim, and certain types of cancer are on that list. And you don’t need to do anything special to qualify for the “compassionate allowance”, because Social Security automatically reviews each submitted claim to see if the disabling condition is on the list.
