Stimulus Checks? Not yet, but the scammers are working on it!
Deliberations are still underway on a COVID-19 relief bill, with rhetoric bouncing back-and-forth on the subject of individual, direct stimulus payments similar to the step taken earlier this year. CNBC Personal Finance Reporter Lorie Konish, in a post on cnbc.com, sounds the alarm with this statement: “If someone texts you promising a $1,200 stimulus check, it’s a scam.” Her article is based on warnings from the IRS and notes that the text message in question sends unwitting folks to a fake site and asks for personal information, clearly the opening salvo in a plot to steal financial information.
