Need a Disability Attorney? Here’s what you need to know - City Telegraph
Statistically, about 1 in 5 American workers will become disabled at some point in their career, and Social Security is there to help by providing Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. SSDI benefits are relatively simple to apply for (can be done online), but not necessarily easy to have approved – the eligibility criteria are stringent and about 2/3rds of all SSDI applications are initially denied. If your SSDI application is denied, appealing that decision is also a fairly easy process by simply submitting a Request for Reconsideration (can be done over the phone) at your local Social Security office, but a further denial may very well cause you to engage an attorney to appeal anew for a hearing by an independent Administrative Law Judge. If that is the case, it is very important you understand how to find and vet an attorney who specializes in Social Security disability, what kinds of services they provide, and how much it will cost you (usually nothing out-of-pocket).
