Why is the SSA phasing out paper checks? - Yahoo!Finance

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will no longer issue paper checks for benefit payments beginning September 30, 2025. The number of beneficiaries affected is less than one percent; however, many of them are older, living in rural areas, or simply do not have a bank account. Danielle Antosz explains what you need to know about this change. Read Ms. Antosz’s article here…

If you wish to request a waiver to continue receiving paper checks, you may do so if you meet certain conditions. Eligibility includes being mentally unable to manage a bank account, living in a very rural area, or being at least 90 years old. To apply, fill out Form 1201W.
