New SSA Commissioner Making a Difference - Fortune
If you are skeptical about customer service improvements at the Social Security Administration, you are among the many who hold that view. Seems like, in past years, we have witnessed a number of appointed Commissioners and temporary “Acting Commissioners” who haven’t exactly lit the agency on fire with innovative improvements. Yes, some previous SSA leaders have tried to improve the agency’s performance, and some have, indeed, made things better. But the newly appointed (in May 2025) SSA Commissioner, Frank Bisignano, came in like gang-busters and made some very significant and effective changes to how this mammoth organization operates. Availability of SSA’s computer systems has dramatically improved to 24 hours daily, and telephone wait times have greatly improved, even in the face of significantly increased call volume.
