Social Security is Going National March 7th - MSN.com - Money

On March 7th, 2026, Social Security will introduce a National Appointment Scheduling Calendar (NASC) and National Workload Management (NWLM) platform.
Even though Social Security is a federal program, its customer service has been more locally based. With the change, instead of retirees calling or visiting their local Social Security offices, scheduling will now be done nationwide. Instead of services being based on where you live, staff will be based on availability and skill level.
The NASC will replace SSA’s current system for scheduling initial claims or appointments at local offices. These changes will affect all digital services and processing centers and will enable staff to schedule initial claim appointments. If you call with a question, you may speak to a representative in a different state.
The NWLM will distribute workloads to employees nationwide based on their skill level, knowledge, and availability.
The main benefit of these changes is that services will be faster and more accessible for everyone, no matter where you live. Social Security states it will speed up local service and better allocate resources. The agency hopes to streamline appointments and support services. Once the national programs begin, you can start your benefits no matter where you live.
