Benefits of Delaying Benefits

The most repeated and common piece of advice regarding Social Security is to delay filing for benefits for as long as you can afford to. Doing so increases the amount that you will receive each month by a significant amount for the rest of your life. In order to do so, many experts advise to dip more in to savings and either stay on at your current job or find new work in retirement. Of course, this is not a one size fits all solution.
