Q & A

Can I find out online approximately what my Social Security benefits would be with early retirement?

Answer: There are 2 ways to find out … the hard way, and the easy way. The HARD way: Click on the following link to go to Social Security’s benefits calculators. http://www.ssa.gov/planners/calculators.htm. The EASY way: Every year, about 3 months before your birthday, Social Security mails you “Your Social Security Statement.” In the middle of page 2, your approximate monthly benefits are shown for (1) early retirement at age 62, (2) your normal retirement age (depending on your year of birth, that can range between age 65 and 67), and (3) deferred retirement at age 70. To estimate your benefits in between those ages, go to our page, Social Security Benefits, where you will find the various percentages to use.
