Does Social Security still mail out checks?

With all the uproar over slowing mail service in this country, who is right in the “Social Security recipients no longer get their checks by mail.”  Well, a tiny fraction actually still do, and Daniel Dale of CNN explains as much in this piece.  Yes, checks were supposed to vanish altogether in 2013, but they never totally did.  There is a hardship waiver, but the key is also including Supplemental Security Income (SSI), administered by the Social Security Administration.  The breakdown is 98.8% direct deposit and 1.2% checks when SSI is included.  Full article here.
