Future Projections of Social Security
One important statistic pertaining to the Social Security program is referred to as the 75-year deficit. The 75-year deficit is defined as how much the Social Security tax would have to increase in order to keep up with payments to beneficiaries over the next 75 years. This deficit is estimated and calculated by different organizations as it cannot truly be known until it actually happens. Currently the deficit through 2090 ranges from 2.7% to 4.8%. These estimates range so wildly because of all the factors that have to be taken in to consideration such as birth rates, life expectancies, and projected earnings.
