Public Servants and Social Security

Those working government jobs see severely reduced Social Security benefits because they also have access to government pensions. The rules affecting this are the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset. These workers can see a cut by as much as 50% in their benefits each month. There are currently bills circulating in congress that would append these and reduce the cuts by as much as 50%. However, the bill with the most support would not take effect until 2026 and would only reduce the cuts by 14%.
