Retirement Crisis Seen as Real for Many Americans

Survey results published by the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS) indicate that many Americans strongly agree that our country faces a retirement crisis in the years ahead. Citing the difficulties in saving for those later years and the costs of long-term care as serious potential roadblocks to a comfortable retirement, participants in this post-election polling point to a “growing dread of living out one’s golden years in poverty.” The survey also underscored seniors’ opinion that retirement security needs to be a high priority for government policymakers.
