Safe Deposit Boxes and Your Social Security Card

Kiplinger Online Editor Bob Niedt, in a post www.kiplinger.com, takes a look at what many folks tend to keep in safe deposit boxes, highlighting the pros and cons of certain items many consider appropriate items to subject to this form of security. First, he focuses on nine things that should probably not be in a safe deposit box, and follows that up with a list of 11 items that should be kept there. One of the specific items he suggests to be kept there is your Social Security card. Says Niedt: “Stow your Social Security card in your safe deposit box. On the rare occasions when you actually might need to produce it, say, for a real estate closing, you can plan in advance to retrieve the card. Meantime, memorize the number, if you haven’t already, for filling out routine paperwork.” Read his interesting, common sense post here…
