SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY TRUST FUND GONE IN 2016

The Social Security Disability trust fund is estimated to run dry in 2016. The trust fund had previously been estimated to run out in 2033. In 2014, however, the Social Security Trustees released a report along with an estimation that the Social Security Disability fund would be depleted in 2016. Trustees noted that the Social Security Disability program was $30 billion short in 2014 and so borrowed from the trust fund, leaving only $60 billion left in it. If the Social Security Disability program continues to be short and borrow from the trust fund, then there will be nothing left in the fund by 2017.
