  1. same question as always 1. will the stimulus payments be placed on social security Direct Express cards? and 2. why are federal authorities side stepping answering this question directly?

    • Dennis:

The most recent statements we’ve seen indicate that the stimulus payments will be deposited the same way as your social security benefits are deposited. From that, and absent a definitive statement from IRS or SSA, we would conclude that yes, your payment will be added to your Direct Express card. Watch this website for any specific announcements regarding the use of Direct Express for delivery of stimulus payments.

On the question of “side stepping answering this question directly,” I can only surmise that the many, many moving parts associated with this economic impact payment concept make it difficult for officials to commit to a specific course of action. As mentioned above, we’ll continue to try conveying information as we learn it.

  2. Hi , i have been on SSID for about 8yrs and i have always been told not to file taxes by a tax preparer because I wouldn’t even qualify for a tax refund . Would i still receive the upcoming stimulus check through my direct deposit ? Or should i file my taxes so the IRS has my updated info?

    • Steve:

Since you’ve been receiving SSDI, the SSA has your direct deposit banking information. Given this, the IRS will automatically be including you in the economic impact payments “stimulus check” distribution, assuming you are not listed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return. Here’s an excerpt from the IRS that clarifies your situation: Social Security and Railroad Retirement recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return need to take no action. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 and Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments of $1,200 to these individuals even if they did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Recipients will receive these payments as a direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their benefits. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) recipients are also part of this group who don’t need to take action.

  3. I was claimed in 2018 by my daughter in law, I had moved out Nov of that year and living on my own. I receive SSI and SSA. How do I insure my stimulus check, I receive direct deposit will her claiming meet that year hurt me. I did change of address with all agencies

    • Sylvia:

As long as your most recent tax return (2019) has been filed and you’re not a dependent on your daughter-in-law’s return for 2019, and if you receive SSI and SSA as a direct deposit, your check should be routed via the same banking information. If you have not filed yet, you should do so now just to be sure.

Thanks for contacting us, and let us know if you have any further questions.
