No Social Security for Illegal Aliens Act of 2020 (HR5577)

Observing that  “The prospect of ‘free’ government services and benefits is a giant magnet for illegal aliens,” Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Alabama introduced the “No Social Security for Illegal Aliens Act of 2020” (HR 5577) in the 116th Congress on January 10, 2020. Joining Rep. Brooks as original co-sponsors of the bill include Republican Congressmen Gus Bilirakis (FL), Jeff Duncan (SC), Paul Gosar (AZ), Andy Biggs (AZ), Ralph Norman (SC), Ron Wright (TX), and Ted Budd (NC).

As explained in a post on The Highland County (OH) Press, HR 5577 is intended to “prohibit the distribution of Social Security benefits to illegal aliens who perform unauthorized work in the United States. The bottom line is, no illegal alien should be rewarded with government benefits for breaking America’s laws.” The bill targets illegals who use fake or stolen Social Security numbers, and is applicable to wages earned, and self-employment income derived, before, on, or after the date of the Bill’s enactment..

The article notes that HR 5577 is endorsed by “America’s No. 1 grassroots border security advocacy group, NumbersUSA, and the Association of Mature American Citizens, a 2 million member advocacy organization for Americans 50 and over.“
