When to take your Social Security benefit is a decision only you can make. If you are married, you should decide with your spouse. This decision will affect the rest of your life.

You should consider your life expectancy (you may use the SSA calculator, click here …), your additional retirement funds, 401Ks, IRAs, pensions, savings, etc., and, if married, your surviving spouse. The surviving spouse keeps the highest of your two benefits, regardless of which of you is the survivor; the smallest benefit ends.
