Are you part of the new “unretire” trend among older workers? According to the New School’s Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, 2.9 million workers between the ages of 55 and 70 have retired due to the pandemic. Following the initial wave of departures from the workforce, approximately 39 percent of individuals aged 65 and older in 2022 reported being actively looking for work, according to Current Population Survey (CPS) data. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), approximately 19.5 percent of seniors aged 65 and older were still working in 2024.
