Frustration With Social Security’s Service

As independent Social Security Advisors here at the AMAC Foundation, we hear every day from Americans frustrated with their attempts to deal with the Social Security Administration, and who often simply give up trying. Telephone wait times at the SSA are so excruciatingly long that callers hang up in disgust or, if they manage to get through, they are sometimes unexpectedly disconnected. The frustration is palpable, especially so during the pandemic when Social Security was forced to close field offices to public access and alter its work environment to protect employees from COVID-19. Some improvement may be on the horizon with field offices slated to start reopening to public access in April, but the service issues are even deeper, as explained in this article by Ethen Kim Lieser appearing at The National Interest.
