“Social Security bridge” Arrangements Advocated as a Tool for Retirement Planning

Alicia Munnell, director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, is advocating the use of “bridging” as a way to defer Social Security benefit claiming.   Her approach would have “retirees make regular withdrawals from retirement assets between the day they retire and the day they file for Social Security benefits,” and would enable retirees to reap the benefits of Deferred Retirement Credits (DRCs).
