Short on retirement savings? Work longer

It’s pretty well known, and many news articles even headline it:  America has a “savings crisis”; that is, far too many people approaching retirement don’t have enough money saved to ensure it’s a comfortable one. If that’s an issue which concerns you, take heart in this CNBC article by Jessica Dickler and Sharon Epperson which suggests that working just a little longer and delaying your Social Security benefits while you do so can have the same affect as saving 1% more of your salary over a 30 years period. And conversely, saving 1% more for 10 years prior to retirement can shorten your retirement date by about a month.  Nevertheless, there really isn’t any good substitute for saving as much as you can to make your eventual retirement all that you want it to be.
