Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI): The basics

Often written about, and sometimes confused with other disability programs, Social Security Disability Insurance SSDI) provides a lifeline to eligible workers who become totally disabled and, as a result, are not able to continue working.  It’s not easy to qualify for it, and about 1/3 of all initial applications are denied, but for those truly disabled it can mean the difference between poverty and keeping one’s head above the financial waters.  This Cumberland Valley (PA) Sentinel article by Ryan Webber explains the basics about the SSDI program and distinguishes it from another Government disability program named Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Click here to read more.
