Rules Pertaining to Collecting Spousal Benefits

Many do not know the full rules regarding the collection of spousal benefits from Social Security, and as a result may be leaving a lot of money uncollected that they are entitled to. You are entitled to spousal benefits if you meet the following four requirements: married at least 10 years, have not remarried, both are 62 years or older, spouse’s benefit is higher than your own. These rules govern whether you can collect benefits based on your ex-spouse if you are divorced or widowed.
